The New England Rural Health Association wants to express our shared sadness and thoughts for those impacted by the mass shooting and continued events in Maine. There are so many emotions swirling through the Lewiston/Auburn community, the state as a whole and the region. Our hearts are with our healthcare colleagues at Central Maine Healthcare, first responders, law enforcement, the local businesses, communities and individuals personally affected by this tragedy as well as all of those who are affected by the trauma induced by anxiety, fear, anger, and other strong emotions stirred by this kind of senseless violence.

New England is truly a small region greatly connected. We know many will have a connection to this tragedy whether they have lost a loved one, cared for the injured, ran from the scene, or rushed towards it to respond to the crisis. No words can fully measure the shock and grief, but we grieve with you. Please take care of yourselves and each other.

Support and resources can be found at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Hotlines/Crisis Numbers page. We will be sharing additional resources as they are released.

We also welcome you to donate to the Maine Community Foundation. MaineCF has created the Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund to address current and emerging needs associated with this tragedy. With MaineCF as a conduit, 100% of every dollar donated will be allocated to people impacted and the organizations that will help guide Lewiston-Auburn through the process of healing.
