New England Rural Health Association Celebrates National Rural Health Day: Honoring the “Power of Rural”
Barre, VT - November 19, 2025 - The New England Rural Health Association (NERHA) is proud to commemorate National Rural Health Day on Thursday, November 20, 2025, and to shine a spotlight on the “Power of Rural.” The day is dedicated to recognizing the resilience, innovation, and vital contributions that rural communities make across the region. It also honors the dedication of healthcare providers, State Offices of Rural Health, advocates and other key partners who make rural health a reality for the patients who depend on it.
NERHA is committed to celebrating these unsung rural heroes by supporting patient-centered solutions, improving access to healthcare, and educating decision-makers about the unique healthcare needs and challenges rural communities across New England face.
Three Facts to Know
Nearly one in five New Englanders lives in a rural area.
New England rural communities tend to have an older population compared to urban areas.
Rural communities in New England have higher rates of chronic disease compared to urban areas.
In New England’s rural towns and remote regions, community hospitals, clinics, and health workers serve as the foundation of local wellbeing and economic vitality. When rural residents lack timely access to care, the ripple effects touch not only health outcomes but entire communities, including jobs, schools, and quality of life. By recognizing National Rural Health Day, NERHA invites all stakeholders, patients, providers, policymakers, and supporters to strengthen our collective effort to build healthier, more resilient rural New England.
Thank a Rural Health Worker – We encourage every resident to “thank” rural healthcare providers, whether they work for a clinic, hospital, or community health center.
Invest Locally – Partner with rural clinics, hospitals, and community health programs. Consider donating time, talent, or financial support to initiatives that expand access, especially in underserved areas. Ask your employer or organization to commit resources to rural health initiatives.
